Generation Shegeng

Once a niche sport in China, climbing has become mainstream over the past decade. Nowhere is this transformation more evident than in Yangshuo, whose iconic limestone formations have been the testing ground, inspiration, and heart of Chinese climbing for years. Now, as Yangshuo’s routes have grown polished and crowded, a visionary crew sets out to expand the sport to new areas in the country.

“Generation Shegeng” follows a dedicated community committed to building the next epicentre of Chinese climbing. Deep in the Guangxi mountains, they find Shegeng Cave, a massive limestone arch poised to test the world’s best climbers. Powered by a desire to give back, they develop new routes, strengthen their local scene, and deliver one of China’s hardest sport climbs.
