The Psiphon and Serratus kits are designed for gendered movement and thermal comfort on big wall climbs.

KEY FACTS

  • Inspired by athletes on big wall climbs, the Psiphon and Serratus alpine climb kits are the newest softshell innovation from Arc’teryx.
  • The Psiphon and Serratus kits include a hoody and pant style, constructed with two high-stretch, durable softshell materials: the Fortius™ DW 2.0 and Aequora AirPerm™.
  • Products are articulated with gender-specific patterns and features, designed for free movement and thermal comfort.
  • Each product is designed with cut-and-sew construction in high-wear areas for easy repair in the field.
"Women also tend to move their bodies closer to the wall and have a more varied hip-to-waist ratio, so we added stretch on the front thigh and waist to ensure more mobility and comfort for different body types."

Designed for alpine climbers, the new Psiphon and Serratus softshell kits are engineered for multi-pitch days when unrestricted movement and thermal comfort goes a long way. For over 35 years, Arc’teryx has built trusted climb systems for points of critical need, inspired by climbers who are pushing the limits of possibility in alpine environments—and their obsession with designing the best gear for the mountains will never stop. New research from Arc’teryx’s Advanced Concepts team around thermoregulation, combined with the brand’s historic expertise in building softshells has informed their latest offering—the Psiphon and Serratus softshell kits, designed for the modern alpinist in dry conditions. Inspired by one of North America’s beloved alpine playgrounds, the Bugaboos, the new Psiphon and Serratus kits are built for the alpine climber first, enabling more freedom to move across the wall, with the same reliable weather protection, superior durability, and breathability that Arc’teryx softshells are known for.

The construction combines two high-stretch softshell materials, the hardwearing Fortius™ DW 2.0 from Arc’teryx’s tried-and-tested Gamma family, with the highly breathable Aequora AirPerm™. The contrast of materials was inspired by professional rock climber and Arc’teryx athlete Nina Caprez, who chooses the Aequora AirPerm™ for hot weather environments where stretch, breathability and durability play an important role. The design team applied insights from the rock-climbing world to an alpine package to create a more dynamic hybrid construction.

“Based on thermal mapping data from our Advanced Concepts team we know that women and men heat-up and cool-down at different rates during outdoor activities, which is why we strategically placed breathable materials on our women’s Psiphon kit in high humidity areas, and added warmth where we know she’ll need it most,” said Ashley Anson, vice president of product design, women’s apparel, snow apparel and hardgoods and accessories. “Women also tend to move their bodies closer to the wall and have a more varied hip-to- waist ratio, so we added stretch on the front thigh and waist to ensure more mobility and comfort for different body types.”

The Psiphon and Serratus hoody and pant feature cut- and-sew construction in high-wear areas to allow for easy repairability. Each style is treated with a PFAS-free DWR for water resistance. The Psiphon and Serratus Hoody and Pant will be available globally on Jan 15 online and in-stores.
